Small Business Products

Project Overview

USAA has always tried to find new and innovative ways to support our members. One of the newer innovative products was around how can we better support our members who are small business owners.

What’s a small business owner?
In general, to be a small-scale business-owner, you must own a business with fewer than 500 employees and less than $7 million in annual revenues.

What was the Impact?

By introducing a variety of products, services, and software applications dedicated to small business owners, as well as partnering with other military associations, such as streetshares, USAA was able to provide 4.5 Million dollars in funded loans to our members and brought in roughly 1 Million in annual business revenue during it’s first year alone.

Role

Our product team during this effort was made up of a full agile scrum team, including multiple developers, security architects, marketing and business experts, and myself as the lead designer. As the lead UI/UX practitioner on the team, I was responsible for the entire user experience from exploring low fidelity UX designs, A/B testing designs and prototypes with real people, and turning insights and concepts into high fidelity experiences, and supporting the process throughout the entire life cycle of the product.

Low Fidelity Designs

To provide the best solutions for the members we integrated a cross channel collaboration with business partners to help define and prioritize what products and services we needed to provide. My role involved designing all of the low fidelity experience flows.

Here is a sample of the low fidelity designs:

Production High Fidelity Designs

After determining our business goals and user needs and iterating on a variety of low fidelity wireframes it was time to convert those into storefront style production pages. My role involved designing all of the high fidelity experience flows for web and mobile views.
